Indicators for the Kunming – Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity adopted the Kunming-Montreal biodiversity package of decisions at the UN Biodiversity Conference (December 2022). These included the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework which aims to catalyse, enable and galvanize urgent and transformative action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, to achieve the outcomes it sets out in its Vision, Mission, Goals and Targets (see CBD/COP/DEC/15/4); and the associated global monitoring framework, which aims to provide consistent, standardized and scalable tracking of the global Goals and Targets, (see CBD/COP/DEC/15/5).

The headline indicators of the Monitoring Framework comprise a small number of indicators which are intended to capture the overall scope of a goal or target in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The headline indicators may not capture all components of a corresponding Goal or a Target but for analytical purposes can be complemented, as appropriate, with the component and complementary indicators This site provides information in the form of metadata about the adopted indicators of the monitoring framework and will be updated as the monitoring framework continues to be refined.

Please see the glossary for an explanation of the terms used in these datasets.
